We’ve pulled out the RV and are ready to start having some adventures. We’re new to RVing so we probably should call this the Misadventures of Mandy & Mr. Mandy, but we’re trying to be optimistic. LOL (anyone else positive this will get a name change too). Anyway, we thought we’d share our experience with RVing and travel–the fun, the not-so-fun, and the WTH moments.
What RV do we have?
What kind of travel do we enjoy?
Any. I love to research for my books and to do book signings, so we pretty much enjoy visiting all places. The boys (ages 22, 18, and 16 like to do outdoor activities like snorkeling, canoeing, hiking, etc). I love museums. Them…not so much. I can’t wait to get to flavor my books with things I learn from my travels!
Some of what we’ve learned so far:
I have to work while traveling so the internet is important to me. We’re looking at getting a cell booster for our RV but haven’t narrowed down which one is best for us. We have Verizon, unlimited data plan and a jetpack via them. Important to note that after 10g of usage during a billing cycle on your jetpack, Verizon will throttle you down from 4g to 3g for the remainder of your cycle.
This is key. We picked up a tire pressure monitoring system from Camping World on sale and it monitors the pressure on our RV and tow dolly. Check out what is best for you.
Planning is key:
For us, planning out a trip and possible stops works great. We’ve found some parks book up fast and reservations are required. Others, you can get in without any issue. As much as I love to fly by the seat of my pants, we require some thinking time for our trips because we’re so new to doing them. I hope this changes with time.
I do meal prep ahead of time to cut down on how much actual cooking we’ll need to do. It’s hot this time of year so we like to keep the temp down in the RV. We prefer to cook rather than eat out. It’s cheaper and often healthier. Not to mention, I’m a great cook so it often tastes better (that was me patting myself on the back there LOL).
Best Laid Plans:
No matter how much planning we do…Mother Nature still rules. We’re at her mercy. If she decides it’s going to storm 3 of the 5 days we planned a trip, we’re stuck in storms. Make the most of it. Have fun.
This is just a small taste of what we’ll be sharing. Pics and fun from the road will follow. We’re doing some videos and podcasts to go along with it all. Should be a ton of fun. If nothing else, it will be a great “what not to do” while traveling. SNORT!
Do you travel? Is so, where?
Do you RV? Have any tips for us?
Want to see us travel to your neck of the woods? Give a shout out. 🙂
